I hope that the answer is no as this is so traumatic. But i really need to share my story.....i have not let go of what happened to me this year. Before my Evie and Nora came along i had my much love and adored Murtle, she was the light in my life and i had waited ages for her and was so excited...Murtle came and was very small, i think that she was too young to be homed but anyway she came home and we loved her so much, after a few weeks i found her on her back and what i now know as fitting,, her eyes where squeezed shut and she was convulsing, afterwards she was very traumatised, but after a few mins she was back to her playfull self, ( she ate healthy and full of energy other wise.) the fits grew worse and at first the vets said it was probably environmental, meaning something in our home triggering off fits....that was ruled out and then the vets said then could really treat her as they had never seen fits in a kitten!!! she was medicated with a liquid phenobarbitol ....her fits got worse and it was so heartbreaking to see, it was just before we married in july and i paid for a professional pet service to babysit her, i even texted on my wedding day.
she grew worse and worse and one night she was having fits almost all the time, we rushed her to the emergency night vets and that was a terrible, they demanded 150 pounds before they would even look at her and then the vet was patronisng and useless, we received awfull treatment....by then i had to make the desicion to have her put down...i have never cried so much and think about her every day, i had her cremated and still havent buried her....i hope i don't come across as crazy...i really bonded with Murtle...and i think i find it hard to let go as i feel could i have saved her somehow? the vets where clueless.
Have you ever heard of fits in Kittens? have you ever know of any causes ??

I know how you feel and your not alone.

Sorry to hear you received such terrible treatment.

I've never heard of fits in kittens but maybe someone else here has. I know you did everything you possibly could have. Maybe it was just a genetic problem that nothing would have cured. I will email my aunt who worked for a vet for many years and see if she had any experience with this.

I had my 2 cremated too (Charlotte & Sabrina) and haven't buried them either. They're both in the living room and it makes me feel closer to them, kind of like they are still here in a small way.

Murtle knows she was loved and you did everything you possibly could. I'm sure Murtle is on the rainbow bridge. You may have already seen this:

Aww hunny. I remember crying too when you had her put to sleep cry . She knows how much you loved her and how much you did for her.

As for fits when Georgie was only 13 weeks old she has a convulsion because her temperature was so high when she was poorly. I have never been so scared of loosing something that is so close to me. They are like my babies!
Me been me, wrapped her up tighter in the blanket which i now know wasnt doing her high temp any good.

She had one with us and one at the vets.
Luckily our vets where great and ruled out anything except the infection that they said she most likely picked up before she came to us.

She hasnt had one since - that we know about. Touch wood

Although i now know the signs to look for when they are not well.

Awww hun, big hugs for you.

I'm so sorry you've had to go through the trauma of losing a fur baby that was so young and in such stressful circumstances. The bedside manner of some vets leaves a lot to be desired for sure and I've experienced a vet like that myself, it compounds the pain you're going through.

Please take comfort in the fact that you provided Murtle with such a loving home and you did the best you could. It is perfectly natural to feel you could have done more - I think we all feel the same when we're faced with having to let a pet go - and it's part of the grieving process. And what non pet lovers don't understand is that we really do go through a grieving process; Murtle was one of the family and you feel her loss every day.

I know what you mean about your very close bond with Murtle, I had a similar bond with my Sophie and hubby used to joke that we were joined at the hip because we were so close. I was absolutely devasted when we had to let her go. We've had to let three others go over the years and I was also devasted at their loss too.

I still have 3 caskets and intended to bury them but I can't bring myself to do it, so you're not alone hun. Sophie and Spider are in wooden caskets in a special keepsake box on my shelf and Oz is in a china urn, also on my shelf. We didn't know we could get Kipper cremated (he was our first) and we buried him in our old garden - something we regret - we would have liked to have his ashes with us too in hindsight.

Sorry, Evie, I don't have any experience of convulsions in cats but it's something I think I will read up on.

Thankfully I don't have experience of a cat/kitten having fits, though I do have had to have a kitten put to sleep and it was so traumatic, and we'd only had the kitten 3 days.

But at least Murtle was loved during her short life, and you did everything you possibly could for her. It must have overshadowed your wedding day too. It's awful that you had such an awful experience with the emergency vet. As vets they should realise that our pets are just like any other member of our family, and that we worry just as much when they are ill. Having a pet is like having a tiny baby because they can't tell you how they feel, making us feel totally helpless.

You will meet Murtle again at Rainbow Bridge. She is there now happy and healthy waiting for you. hug

Oh Evie, let me give you a big hug. hug

You did everything you could possibly do for Murtle. Of course we bond with our fur babies and we feel the loss and grieve very much. I think it's natural to feel that you could have done more. There will be a time when you reach acceptance that letting her go was the best you could do for her at the time. I'm so sorry for your loss Evie.
